Cement Tile Applications We Offer

From statement floors to detailed backsplashes, these tiles complement a variety of interior residential and commercial spaces. Explore our local cement tile installation services below.

Kitchen Floors and Backsplash

These tiles work well for kitchen flooring and backsplashes, but their installation requires proper sealing and mortar application to prevent staining and ensure lasting performance.

Bathrooms and Showers

Most homeowners and builders choose solid-color, subtly patterned, and decorative cement tiles for bathrooms, showers, and powder rooms. A waterproofing membrane is installed in walk-in shower and tub surrounds to protect the underlying surface from moisture.

Entryways and Mudrooms

Properly sealed and installed cement encaustic tile provides a durable surface for high-traffic entryways and mudrooms, handling tracked dirt and moisture brought indoors. It can also be used on stair risers to add a decorative detail.

Laundry Rooms

Its durable surface makes it well suited to rooms exposed to water, detergent spills, and frequent cleaning. We include movement joints at the perimeter to accommodate movement and help reduce the risk of cracking.

Living Room and Fireplace Surrounds

These applications are mostly for aesthetic purposes. We help you choose a suitable tile style and pattern for the surface and fireplace application.

Commercial Spaces

As Utah’s DOPL-licensed tile contractors, we plan commercial installations for long-term durability and to withstand high traffic. From restaurants and coffee shops to boutiques and hotel lobbies, we have completed numerous commercial installations in Provo, West Jordan, and surrounding areas.

Cement Tile Styles We Install

We install traditional handmade, unglazed cement encaustic tiles, including decorative encaustic designs and patterned Mission, Cuban, and Moroccan styles. Popular patterns include hexagon, star and cross, herringbone, and checkerboard, with options for both subtle and bold designs.

The Process

Our tile setters start with subfloor and substrate preparation before laying a single tile to prevent staining, cracking, and uneven results. It may include self-leveling underlayment, cement backer board, an uncoupling membrane, or a waterproofing membrane as per project and installation needs.

For light-colored cement tiles, we use white thinset mortar to achieve a clean finish. We use the mortar specified for the tile and substrate (such as unmodified mortar), along with back-buttering and appropriate mortar coverage to create a strong bond.

We apply a penetrating sealer when pre-sealing before grout is required and apply a final sealing coat after grouting. Resealing every few years is recommended to maintain the tile’s appearance and performance. For routine cleaning, use a pH-neutral cleaner and avoid acidic cleaners that can damage the surface or cause etching.

Cement Tile Installation Cost

In Utah, the labor cost for installing cement tile ranges between $20 and $50 per square foot. Project size, detailed patterns, and installation complexity may increase the cost. We provide a free estimate for your selected tile and project requirements.

FAQ’s

Do cement tiles need to be sealed before grouting?

Yes, sealing tiles before grouting helps prevent stains and allows excess grout to be easily cleaned off.

Can cement tile be installed in a shower?

They can be installed in shower walls and floors but require proper sealing and waterproofing. It requires high maintenance and regular resealing to prevent stains and preserve its appearance.

Will cement tile crack on a Utah patio in winter?

Yes, they can crack when absorbed water freezes and expands. Sealing and proper drainage may help reduce the risk, but can’t prevent freeze-thaw damage.
